the Coast Road area, Greymouth to Westport, this print shows a portion of the coal flume from Hunters Mine to the loading area, where it was intended to be directly loaded into ships holds, the venture, after a great deal of cost to the share-holders was abandoned, mainly because the master mariners who tried to load coal cargoes found the sea conditions and rocky shoreline too dangerous, the last shipment of coal from the Brighton Coal Mine to leave by sea from Woodpecker Bay, was shipped on the S.S. Hokitika in 1941
