Westport Lady Mayoress, Mrs F F MUNRO laying the first brick for erection of the Westport Public Library in Lyndhurst St, 30 June 1904, the Mayor Fergus MUNRO placed parchment copies of correspondence between the Town Clerk and the benefactor, American Mr Andrew CARNEGIE, along with copies of the local newspapers and coins of the Realm in a cavity in the wall of the building.  Mr CARNEGIE had donated £2,000 which covered the cost of the building, which was erected by local builder John MARSHALL, and Mr Thomas DOLLMAN became the Secretary and Librarian, note Cosmopolitan Hotel in Palmerston St in the background
