search for uranium in the Buller Gorge, use of helicopter.

Caption

During the successful search for uranium in the Buller Gorge during 1958 the prospectors were in very isolated areas and this was their quick method to obtain supplies.  About the period 1954 - 1958 prospectors Charles JACOBSEN and Fred CASSEN located a rich strike of the mineral in the Buller Gorge.  Mr JACOBSEN was the first lucky man to discover the area, largely by a personal mix of knowledge - and chance - and the use of the helicopter, to be able to land supplies to the prospectors, in the difficult terrain, was a big help.
