The blacksmiths.

The blacksmiths - usually a social centre for every little town and village in the pioneering days.  He was an essential requirement to the smooth running of the horsepower era, and as the horse gave way slowly to the motor industry the same blacksmith shop became the first motor repair garage.  At first there were no motor garages until they became more numerous.  Note the sign to the extreme right top corner - brand name Big Tree, petrol sold in four gallon tins at 1 shilling and 6 pence halfpenny a gallon.
