Early photos taken by H. T. GORRIE, from the BUTTLE Family Collection. Henry Thomson (H. T.) Gorrie was a gold buyer working for the Bank of New Zealand. He travelled around the goldfields buying up the gold. Henry collected items of interest and pasted them into a large bound album, and in 1874 he began taking his own photos during his travels around New Zealand, and these were also pasted in to his album. Henry's two sons were both killed in action. Through his daughter this album has been retained in his family and is now part of the Buttle Family Collection.
