West Coast Times - 30th of October 1903 -

"Grant by Carnegie for New Westport Library - £2000 offered

The Westport Borough Council has received a reply to their application to Mr Carnegie for a sum of money to rebuild the Public Library, which was destroyed by fire last New Year's Day. Mr Carnegie agrees to give £2000, provided the Borough raise at least £100 per year by a penny rate and provide a free site for the building."

West Coast Times - 11th of May 1904 -

"Free Public Library

Westport May 10th - The Westport Borough Council decided tonight to take steps for the erection of a free public library in brick with the money promised by Mr Carnegie, a letter having been received that progress payments on the £2000 promised would be forwarded."

 

Taranaki Herald - Westport 29th of November -

"The erection of the Carnegie free public library in Westport is completed. It is a handsome brick building."

 

Wanganui Herald - 24th  of December 1904

"Westport's Carnegie Library

The Carnegie Free Public Library was formally opened yesterday with speaches by the Mayor and other representive men."
