Topic: That's Priceless Exhibition: 30 Sept - 21 October 2009

Topic type:

Interviews and photographs of nine West Coasters with Buller connections, explaining why they considered the objects they had chosen to exhibit to be priceless. This exhibition revealed insights regarding collector's habits.

The nine contibutors involved this exhibition were: Nell Schwass (nee Peck), Granddaughter of Jim (David James) Mettrick, publican of the Denniston Hotel, Nov. 1911 - March 1915; Dell Griffiths (nee Powick), Great granddaughter of Mary Walker who made her sampler in 1818; Pat Bradley, Grand Nephew of Michael John Fitzgerald whose letters cover the few months he survived after enlisting for WW1; Arthur Craddock, Great grandson of Bill Smith; Margaret Woods (nee Seatter) sister of Graeme; Mike Jephson, Great grandson of Hugh Boyle; Elva Walker (nee Nelson); Mary McGill and Pete Ashby.

All donors were recorded in an interview which was condensed to one A4 page transcript. They were photographed with their object and all objects were put on display in the Sue Thomson Memorial Library in Westport. I am indebted to them for entrusting me with their objects and for their time given to this project.
