Edward John (Ted)  Berdinner – Registration No. 35798. 21st Mounted Rifles. World War 1 1914 -1918. According to family member Ted enlisted for World War 1 in 1916 at the age of 17 but put his age down as 21. Occupation Loco Driver. Received British War and Victory Medals. Next of kin: Mrs B Berdinner (Mother), Ngakawau, later Mill Street, Westport. Discharged from WW1 on 10/06/1919. No longer fit for service on account of illness (Malaria) contracted on active service.

 Served in World War 2. Service No. 9215. Occupation Sand Dryer, C/o Stockton Mine. Father: Mr E J Berdinner, Stockton. Details on registration - Born in Hokitika on 18/06/1899. 20th Battalion, Burnham.

 Met his death by drowning when a sudden storm occurred causing a boating accident on the Mokihinui River bar. Died aged 55 years.  Interred 25 February 1951.
