Francis Carmine was born in Goldsborough September 21 1890, his parents were Francisco and Mary who travelled out to NZ via Australia & Ireland along with Francisco's brothers and sister.

Francis had 6 other siblings all born at Goldsborough as far as I know. Francisco & Mary ran a hotel there as well as looking for gold. Mary died in 1910 and Francisco in 1913, (due to a "fall of Earth to the face" apparently),  then Francis and remaining younger siblings moved up to Granity where there were aunts and uncles. His uncle Joseph Victor Carmine (Francisco's brother) was a baker and had a general store at Granity. I believe Francis worked in this store, perhaps as an apprentice baker.

The attached photo was taken at Granity in 1906 at his Aunt Angela's cottage. He is 3rd in from the right aged about 16. The small boy below him in front is his younger brother Vincent (about 6 y/o) who is Kerry's grandfather. Sitting next to Vincent is the baker Uncle Joseph Victor.

When Francis went to war he put his next of kin as his older brother and sister, Joseph Vincent (not the Uncle) and Maria (Peace). Francis's medals etc were sent to Joseph Vincent in Christchurch but from there I'm not sure where they went. Joseph died in 1969 and by that time had no living children or grand children (which I am aware of) to pass them down to. I would like to track them down, especially a diary would be very interesting.
