Walter Phillips was a tailor living at 4 Cobden Street, Westport, New Zealand when he enlisted for World War 1. He worked for A Carter of Westport. His next of kin is given as his mother, Mrs L Phillips of the same address. At the time of enlistment Walter served with the local Territorial Artillery Garrison. Walter was born at Reefton on 08 October 1897 and died at Westport on 12 September 1963. At the age of 28 he married Florence Emily Reynolds (23) on 03 August 1926. An interesting item once belonging to Walter is the child's size military uniform made by him and shown in the photographs attached to this entry.
